Women, In Their Own Words: Jamie Young

In a recent interview with Design Dash, I had the opportunity to reflect on my nearly 30-year journey as the Founder Director of Jamie Young Co. Looking back on my path, I’m grateful for the chance to share how my passion for design has evolved, alongside the challenges and triumphs of balancing creativity with entrepreneurship.

From the very beginning, I drew inspiration from the world around me, from high-fashion handbags to the creative energy I shared with my husband. Over the years, I’ve honed my craft, and my creative process has become more dynamic. I’ve learned to embrace not only the artistic side of my work but also the importance of the business behind it. There was a point when I realized that to truly grow, I needed to bring in experts to handle the financial and operational aspects of the company.

One of the themes I often reflect on is the progress of women in the creative industry. While I’ve seen positive changes over the years, I know that women still face unique challenges, particularly in balancing the expectations placed on us as both professionals and individuals. There are times when it feels like we’re held to different standards than our male counterparts, but I believe in the power of perseverance. Change doesn’t happen overnight, but every woman contributing to this industry is making a difference, and I’m proud to be part of that movement.

To other women, especially those navigating the creative world, my advice is simple: trust your instincts, be open to new ideas, and don’t be afraid to take risks. The journey won’t always be easy, but each step along the way is worth it.

As I continue to explore new collections and design possibilities, I remain committed to blending timeless aesthetics with a forward-thinking approach. I’m excited for what the future holds, and I can’t wait to see where my creativity will take me next.
